Thanks, Frank.

Hah, you beat me to it, Frank. I was rummaging around in a bag, looking for
one, when you posted. :-)

I had looked into that one over 6mos ago but totally had forgotten that little
guy swivels. It is much more versatile than the included Panny flash.
It is under powered to bounce but with the ISO up a bit might be OK.

It is more powerful than the GM5 flash and Oly flashes for Pens, E-M5, etc,
with the accessory connector.

The Oly F-LM1 is GN 23' @ ISO 100 & 14 mm coverage. Specs on the GM5 add-on flash aren't easy to find. Certainly GN 23'/100 and IR reports dark corners @ 14 mm, so probably the same as the Oly.

The Oly F-LM3 is more powerful in two ways, slightly higher GN and claimed 12 mm coverage. IR was unimpressed with the 12 mm coverage. <http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/olympus-e-m5-ii/olympus-e-m5-iiFLASH.HTM>

The GM5 flash neither tilts nor swivels. The F-LM1 for earlier Olys tilts to maybe 30º and doesn't swivel. I addition to full 180º swivel, the F-LM3's tilt is different than the F-LM1, with stops at 45º, 60º and 90º.

The Oly flashes often work on most Panny bodies, but as I recall a bit of
surgery is required to make it stable on the GM-5.

It is mechanically stable, the little pin locks and it's v. solid. Electrically, it's necessary to push firmly forward for connection. The reason is a small lip on the front of the shoe. It fits under a small overhang on the E-M5 II, presumably to stabilize it as it is tilted, but keeps it from going all the way into the Panny shoe, although it does latch. It would be possible, and easy, to cut/sand/whatever it back partially or fully. Cut back fully, I imagine the shoe fit might not be as solid, but the electrical contact reliable.

Were I doing it, I'd take off a little at at time, while testing the fit for the best combination of mechanical and electrical connections.

I think it still may be mountable for a try---Dr No Flash has a couple copies
I bet, and has the GM-5, but it might be a bit much to ask him for a quick
opinion given his name.

Just for you. :-) I did try it, and it worked well. Required neg, flash EV comp. @ say 7'. Bounce gave a better looking result.
