Hi Brian,
If you're interested in an overview from an 'enquiring minds'
perspective, the wikipedia page on Freemasonry is useful in this regard.
However, the article doesn't adequately cover the social aspects of the
Masonic community, the ancillary 'orders' for wives/children, and the
fact that people of all 'social strata' meet as equals within the
organisation. I assume service organisations like Lions and Rotary are
similar in this regard (e.g. Rotaract for younger people).
