Makes sense. They became available to the general public near the end
of WW2. Prior to that, the military, radio broadcast and Hollywood had
pretty well sucked them up. WXYZ used transcription discs for
everything, until they were able to get the wire recorders and then
used the wire recorders for a lot of the sound effects. The later
radio broadcasts were recorded on wire instead of transcription discs
and many episodes were lost or damaged over time.
