Fear not the global warming. Here is a link to Charleston temperature data from 1900 to present. <http://weather-warehouse.com/WeatherHistory/PastWeatherData_CharlestonCity_Charleston_SC_January.html>

Check the mean temperature column. 2016 is not yet complete so look at 2015. Mean temp. was 50.9. 2012 and 2013 were warmer years with mean temps above 55. But middle 50s temperatures are not uncommon throughout the whole history and the warmest year of all was 1937 with a mean temp of 61.7. From 1907 to 1974 there are 11 years with temperatures much higher than 2012-2013 which were unusually warm even for recent years.

If more people would check the actual temperature data there would be a lot less hysteria. The IPCC has been projecting disaster for the last 20 years but none of their projections have come anywhere near being true. They can't even hindcast actual temperatures let alone project them. In their last report they claimed to be more certain then ever of the validity of their work. That despite the greatest projection errors they've ever made (off by about a factor of 3). Just scream loudly, it must be true.

While Charleston has a flooding problem it's not much due to sea level rise. Sea level has been rising 2-4mm/year on the East Coast for the past 100 years or more. But much of the East Coast, and Charleston in particular, suffer from subsidence. Subsidence is mostly from warping after glacial unloading and, in Charleston and other cities withdrawal of ground water. Trading your SUV for a bike will not help Charleston.
