No way. Key word here is "supported". Those are engineered trusses I'm sure.

Absolutely not. The house was really built on the cheap. Hand built around 1950, cribbing a simple, three bedroom, one bath, tract house design. But built on a down slope, not the usual slab, and with odd later additions. One of my neighbors jokes that I could increase the value of the property by removing the house. But then where would I live? ;-)

The 2x4 is an integral component but the load is distributed. ...unless the contractor cut 'em for some reason and the inspector missed it or looked the other way. Roof trusses are superior to a trad framed roof in many ways including

cost and ease of construction. So just because you see 2x4's under the roof deck doesn't mean CHEAP .... but doesn't rule it out either. :)

All hand framed. The ties are pretty wide 1bys, and they did something odd/tricky near the outer ends, apparently to shorten the unsupported span of the 2x4s. Now, with the very light steel roof, there's no load to speak of.
