Looks like the C-990 zoom was announced by Oly in June 2000 !

It served its purpose admirably for ebay shots when I was still using film
for nearly everything.

Yeah, it looks like Oly standardised at some time on a particular mini USB
plug (looks the same for E-1, E-3, E-620, E-P1, E-M5) but the old C2100uz is
different ! Anyway I can get a cable from HK via ebay easily and cheaply
enough.

I have a C-990 zoom (when was that made !) and it doesn't have USB either.

Ah. Fortunately, I think, I never caught the IR bug. The vast majority of IR
shots I've seen I either actively dislike or they simply do nothing for me.

I got an amazing amount out of my first digicam, a 1.9 MP Canon, the first
S110, but I can't see the point in doing it now.

I thought Oly used the same USB cable forever, about the same width as a
mini-USB, but about twice as thick. Should be easy to find a used one.
Someone gave me an ancient digiOly, a D460, but I see it has no USB
connector at all, but a 3.5mm plug to RS232C serial cable.
