The ONLY reason I have this camera is that it has very good IR sensitivity
which I've found interesting to play with but at 2.1Mp it's a bit limiting.
I'm tempted to try a firmware upgrade when I get the correct USB cable.

The English language manual does not contain the word "language" and a
perusal of the menu options has nothing that would help.
Guess you just have to learn Japanese?
... or, gasp, switch to a contemporary superzoom.
