Thanks, Charlie. I do have a couple of pileated woodpecker shots from
upstate New York that I only just remembered but maybe I'll get some
more now. Guess I'll have to finally spring for one of those 75-300s.

We're in Palmetto, Florida right now, just south of Tampa, waiting for our
South Carolina house to be finished. I haven't seen them yet this year
(only been here a week) but there is a pair of pileated woodpeckers that
live somewhere nearby. Look for the trees with the really big nesting
holes in them. :-)

variety, as the topography, climate, etc. vary, the vegetation
changes a lot over small areas.
