I have not yet had occasion to interact with UK police. On our 2006 visit to
London, they were all over the place, all of them in full kit with automatic
weapons. There never seemed to be fewer than two, though I seem to recall
seeing the occasional standard-issue bobby—maybe I was hallucinating. While in
Scotland, I saw four police cars in two weeks. Two parked, one rolling past our
inn on Skye, and one with someone pulled over on the motorway between Stirling
and Glasgow. The parked unit was in Killin, and didn’t move in two days. Come
to think of It, I’m not sure I ever saw a light on in the small station there.
Maybe it was an inflatable car, just to keep motorists on their toes.
