We're thinking alike. 1200 _minimum_ vertical for 4:3 nets 1200:1600
which was what the old Samsung 20" display was. I basically gained two
usable bars on either side. At least with Windoze one can drag stuff to
dock on the sides.

I followed TFT Central's recommendation for a starting point for
profiling. In my case at 30% brightness. I see for your monitor the
settings range from 35% down to 16%. I guess it might be the ambient light.
