Here in Kansas, our state wildlife people say the whistles do no good. They
are, however, good at repelling elephants. Not one car has struck an
elephant in kansas. But then, officially we don't believe in evolution, too.

Statistically, I don't think it makes a bit of difference. I've run
with them and without them and there is no significant difference in
behavior or response. (I've busted them off twice impacting deer).
There is a lot of antidotal evidence of their functioning, but I think
the only ones really promoting their success are the companies that
sell them.
