They may well choose to relent, they seem to have a ratchet approach to
squeezing out the last drops, thus:
They announced that CS5 would be the last version for which upgrades from
pre-prior versions would be accepted. So CS3 - CS5 upgrades were OK, but CS3
(or CS4) - CS6 would not be. I reluctantly upgraded to CS5. Guess what? They
relented after a few months, and CS3 - CS6 upgrades would be accepted until
31/12/2012.
Now what do I see? CS3/4/5/6 owners are eligible for a discounted first year
subscription to the cloud version.
I will resist this time. LR5 too.

Their release says that CS6 will continue to be sold and upgraded for bugs,

Ah! That's the strategy. They need a sales boost for quarter or year, which
all the panic purchases and upgrades will provide.
Then they may choose to eventually relent, and everyone who uses it will not
be too upset at the significant price increase.
