I had worked out that it was shift alone; I suppose tilt is self-explanatory.

But what I find hard to appreciate is that such small movements in the lens can 
give you such a change in apparent level of camera; it's much more effective 
than merely raising the camera with your arms, for instance.

The other snag is that, with this system, you need really to have the camera on 
a tripod.
