On similar subject, I just read somewhere--maybe Facebook--a piece by Paul
Thoreaux about the quirks and oddities of a haole transplant living in Hawaii.
Very interesting read. As side of the islands I was completely unfamiliar with.
(My mother lived there for three years in the years leading up to World War II.
In fact, her family moved back to the mainland because of looming war clouds.
My grandfather was a geologist doing research on the several live volcanos
extant on the islands.)
