The L1 is a cool camera for family shots.
The unparalleled built-in bounce flash device added to a very  
efficient auto WB make it a camera of choice,
so long as you accept mixed lighting.

And the D vario 2.8 is also a great help, fast to focus, limited  
distortion, and opens wider than many.

The only downside is limited ISO, but most of the time you can do  
without as a result of the above.
