I never said this wipe will ruin a lens, just that it may be available for
less money in another label. And anyway, I quit getting coated eyeglass
lenses
as they never get clean. Camera lenses, should be fine. My nose says it's
isopropyl.

I guess I'm in a particularly picky mood today.
Appear to whom? A casual shopper? A lab tech with testing equipment?
Are we to the point where we don't believe a premier lens maker, assume it's
just BS puffery, when it says:
"Zeiss Lens Cloths safely and quickly clean and lens, especially those with
Zeiss Anti-reflective multi-layer coatings.
High tech ammonia free formula cleans effectively without leaving streaks of
residue."
The spray bottle says the same thing, worded slightly differently, but names
the formula maker, Nanofilm of Cleveland, OH.
Remember, Zeiss makes eyeglass lenses, too, positioned as a premier, and
very expensive, brand. The wording on their
product, and where is is sold, suggest it is primarily for eyeglass lenses.
If the wipes they sell for folks to clean their eyeglasses ruin the
coatings, their potential costs are rather large. I
can hear the news reports of the class action lawsuit now.
I will allow that their research may have found that isopropyl alcohol ,
which in my experience with older lenses is a
pretty decent cleaner, is the best 'formulation' they can find. Then again,
it may be that they name the alcohol as a
matter of compliance with some law(s) or as a service to health and safety,
while not naming some other ingredient(s)
they feel is/are proprietary.
At the minimal cost involved, I'll stay with the Zeiss branded wipes. The
pack I bought will last me for years anyway,
as I am not a frequent wet cleaner of lenses.
