Close...but no cigar!  Pasties were originally food for Cornish tin miners. the 
Welsh ( coal miners) would not appreciate being thought of as Cornish, and I am 
sure the Cornish would not appreciate being thought of as Welsh!   ;o)>

My experience with pasties is that they were totally devoid of any 
spice.  When you consider that they originated as lunch food for Welsh 
miners the lack of spice makes perfect sense... if not perfect taste.
