Yes, after 6 years of digital (even though mostly manual exposure) I've 
pretty much forgotten how to read (and interpret) a simple metering 
system.  One of the days I'll have to experiment with the 5D's spot 
meter and see if I can make it tell me the correct ETTR exposure without 
one or two test shots.  :-)
