Although not all owners do it, wet mounting was the recommended method for
drum scanners. It was also used for printing with enlargers when a glass
carrier was required. Wet mounting will kill them entirely. They come from
some weird optical thing that cannot be cured while using smooth glass. Anti
Newton Ring glass is something like old fashioned no glare framing glass.

I occasionally use a glass carrier to hold 35mm and 120 format film strips
for scanning.
In at least 50% of cases Newton rings show up in the final scans. The glass
plates are kept clean and moisture free as best as I can manage and likewise
the film strips.
Are these rings just an accident of nature waiting to happen or can anyone
suggest a routine or procedure to help eliminate their occurance?
Using Photoshop to have them go away is very time consuming and does not
eliminate the chance of leaving behind tell tale signs of their original
existence.
