I agree with your colleague, Ian - but have many times been corrected by
non-native speakers in my use of (and even pronunciation of) my mother
tongue, so don't worry.
But they are not always interchangeable - "glacial until" is a definite
no-no, and AG has also gone to the check-out with another example..

whilst recently correcting a swisscolleague at work on the use of till, i.e.
you have until 10am rather than you have till 10am, he disputed my
correction saying that they were interchangeable, it sounds so bad to me but
sure enough in my oxford dictionary it confirms that they are in fact
interchangeable, am I alone in thinking the use of till sounds terrible.

excuse my spelling mistakes in most of my postings of late, but I am
having trouble to find time and often just rush my emails to get them
posted to the list which when the alternative is that they will not, I
think better - though you may disagree ;-)
