Not all is perfect with the 35-80, though. There is a bit of
purple-fringing, but with today's post-processing options, it's
essentially a non-issue for most images. As long as you can accept the
negatives of the lens (it also doesn't focus all that close and is
HEAVY), the lens offers something specifically worthwhile:

The 35-80 is essentially perfect for people/event photography where
you are focused on subjects between two and four meters away from the
camera. The images take on a 3D wrap-around characteristic. Probably
one of the best "people lenses" ever made.

Is it expensive? Sure. But compare the going price with anything
decent for digital cameras these days. Price is actually reasonable.
