Actually, in this case, it didn't.
He accidentally turned off the power (kicked the button on his outlet bar)
while Mail was in the process of downloading mail over a slow dial-up link.
I got him to buy a UPS.
I also put a wood screw part-way into the power bar switch, so now it lacks an
"OFF" position. :-)
