Chuck, if one of the three 3/32 inch* socket head screws is tighter than the
others,
it will cause a bind like that. Also, a little focus mount grade grease
will smooth the operation. I use wheel bearing grease (sparingly).

   *I'm sure they are metric screws, but asa was all I had here at the desk.
