Figured that one out.

A lot of RP's also get fungas growth in the coolant lense, you can
still get replacement kits for these but you dont want to open them
up over the PCB's in the TV, take the assembly out first :-)

The blue gun in our Sony Rear Projection TV had gunge growing
on the inside lens, so I took the assembly out, cracked the seals,
cleaned, replaced coolant and seals and reassembled about
2 years ago I think, still going well now. We had 2-3 years left
before I'll replace it with a digital set unless something gives
out on it before then. 10 years old so I dont think I'll bother
fixing it again next time it has a problem.

I take the front off to vaccum the set and give the lens
tops a clean every 3-4 years, which is about when the
contrast starts to look to low.

It's been good, in the 10 years its only had a 1/4 metal resistor
go o/c apart from the fungas problem.

Cheers
