Actually, Taxachusetts isn't so bad anymore after a short string of
Republican governors. Income and sales taxes are both relatively
modest. Dr. Flash only goes to Florida for the winter since Mrs. Flash
doesn't like the heat of summer and traipsing through the Everglades.
She didn't like it years ago when we were citizens of the Sunshine State
and doesn't like it any better today. Florida has no income tax but a
moderately high sales tax and various other ways of extracting gold from
them that are high up in the investment income crowd. But it is a
favorite place for the wealthy to live. No matter how bad you've been
no one can take your home away from you for any reason. That's a good
place to sock away and protect your millions. Dr. Flash now calls
upstate New York his permanent residence because Mrs. Flash came from
where we are and because she likes it that way. New York used to be as
bad or worse than Taxachusetts and for many people still is. However,
as a retiree, there are many ways that your income simply doesn't count
or count very much. I actually paid almost no income tax to New York
this past year. A very big difference from the time when we lived here
almost 40 years ago. Life is good here... during the spring, summer and
fall anyhow. Then it's time to pack up and head for the Sunshine State. :-)
