There are lots of theories of pre-Columbiam explorers but most are not
accepted by mainstream archeologists. They make for interesting reading. The
Norse certainly made it to the fringes of the New World but after them few
are documented. The Welsh prince Medoc supposedly made his way up the
Mississippi in the 12th century and founded a "tribe " of Welsh speaking
natives in that area. Saint Brenden may have come over in a leather boat.
Supposedly a group of Celts made it to Iroquois land in the 12th century (a
friend had a book written by a Harvard historian who claimed to have found
celtic runes carved in stone in NY from that time). Right here in SC in the
Savannah River area is an archeological site that claims to have found
artifacts that are 12,000 years older than the oldest Clovis points. Fun
stuff.
