If you have a persistent resident then "he" is most likely a "she". 
Female chipmunks set up a permanent residence which gets embellished 
each year with new chambers, runways and hidden entrances.  Males roam 
the neighborhood spreading their genes wherever they can.  When the kits 
are born the males are specifically disinvited from the female's home 
territory.  They tend to be unhelpful and sometimes extremely unhelpful 
by viewing the kits as part of the female's larder.  The kits are raised 
to about the age of 6 weeks whereupon they too are specifically 
disinvited from further sharing in mother's larder.  Finding a new place 
where they can be accepted is difficult.  Many don't make it.

Actually, not too much different from alligators and some other 
critters.  Doesn't sound like Chip n' Dale, eh?
