Install a second 12v battery in your vehicle (deep cycle marine battery) and
wire a battery isolator into your vehicle charging circuit. Isolators can
readily be found at most auto parts, RV and marine stores. Run power to the
passenger compartment via a lighter socket, plug an inverter into the
socket, then plug laptop to inverter and start typing.
Both batteries will recharge/stay charged as you drive, but the laptop, or
whatever else you plug in to the inverter, will only draw power from the
deep cycle battery. You can run the deep cycle down to nothing while parked
without having any effect on the vehicle battery.
