[OM] Olympus AFD lenses better than F2?

Why didn't Olympus manufacture faster glass for the E-series? Did that have 
something to do with focusing capability of the bodies or did they simply want 
to keep lenses affordable? Sigma and other manufacturers have manufactured 
faster glass but Olympus has the capability.
