Ken,

I have the same complaint about autofocus lenses.  My ZD 14-54 does a nice 
job of finding focus automatically, but the rediculous manual focusing scale 
and lack of DOF scale are the reason I purchased a Leica-R lens when I chose 
to add a prime.
