You usually don't calibrate a monitor (and most LCDs have no
calibration options), you're profiling the monitor. The difference is
that calibrating implies that you're adjusting the actual output to
fit a certain spec (my understanding is that some CRT monitors could
be calibrated because you could adjust the individual colour guns,
LCDs only give you brightness control so you can't adjust the RGB
output). Profiling involves sending RGB values to the monitor and
measuring what colour (in LAB colour) the monitor actually displays.
Then with colour management, it's able to convert the RGB values from
the colour space you're using into LAB colours, and then use the
monitor profile to determine what RGB value needs to be sent to the
monitor to create that LAB value on the display.
Assuming your profiling has been done properly for both monitors it
sounds like you're just running into issues where the gamuts of the 2
monitors differ. From what you describe, it sounds like the HP goes
wider into the yellows but is weaker in the purples. If those yellows
you see on screen are outside of the printer's gamut, you're never
going to see them in a print though.
