I also wonder if the 'sensitivity' response of a sensor varies with  
conditions - is it shifted if the scene is bright or dark, more green  
or more blue, etc.
I'm sure that they are working to a standard of some type but an  
exhaustive test by a DPReview or DxO may give more real world  
numbers. One should remember of course that one is English, the other  
French so there is likely to be no agreement whatsoever - a matter of  
principle.
