Different strokes for different folks, Brian. Mine fits my hands just fine. (An
OM body must give you fits.)

I use it with the ZD 14-54mm zoom and I have never been bothered by a
balance problem. This lens is heavier than the 14-45mm zoom. I am not
bothered by the ZD 50-200mm zoom on the E-510 either. Of course, I am
not overly concerned with balance. (YMMV) I look for a well-designed tool
that will take excellent photos when I do my part. The E-510 does that very
well.

Did you read the specifications before you bought the camera? You can
get that LCD screen on an E-10, E-20 or an E-330.

But you can enlarge the image up to 14X using the thumb wheel on the right
rear top side. That should tell you whether you have focused correctly or
whether the photo you took is sharp or not. That's why we chimp.  ;o)

As mentioned by someone else, it is quieter with the IS turned off.

Now let's hear something about what you like about the camera, Brian.
It seems odd to me to purchase a new camera and start right off deciding
what you don't like about it. What were you expecting? Customized
perfection?

Ask yourself, "What do I want to do with a camera?" Then ask, "Will this
one do that for me, if I use it well?" That will tell you whether you have
made a bad choice or not.

I suppose that I am just another old curmudgeon on the list, but one of my
pet peeves is someone who purchases something and immediately begins to
look for things not to like about it. (There seems to be a lot of that on this
list)
I wonder, does that indicate poor judgment on the part of the buyer or simply
a case of "camera envy" thinking of what some other model, brand, etc. offers
instead?

I suspect that in the right hands and with enough skill any half-decent camera
and lens purchased in this time period will more than do the job. There are a
lot of people out there with megabuck wonder cameras that still produce
mediocre photos IMHO...including some who make megabucks doing it.

Learn what your new camera can do and make the most of it. You have a tool
that will make you proud, if you use it well. A good photographer can make
good photos with a "point and shoot." A bad one will make bad photos with
the latest and greatest. It's the person looking through the viewfinder that
makes
the photo.
