The E-1 and long exposure was not my criticism, but rather simply
that the E-1 was not very good with noise compared to other
cameras. I was not criticizing film vs digital, but the E-1 digital
compared to alternative digitals for low light photography. The
OM used to be a champ at low light, but the E-1 was not.

So, Olympus digital does not share the same style of
photography as Olympus OM film photography from my
perspective. Other digital cameras, eg. 5D, are much more
aligned with my OM style of film photography than Olympus
digital is. There is not much in common between an Olympus
OM film camera and an Olympus digital camera, IMO.

I don't think the fact noise is additive in a digital sensor, when
compared to film, results in that much difference, at least when
comparing with a camera that is not as noisy as the E-1. In the
range of 10-120 second exposures, the better digitals
do just fine. In fact, I have some OM shots that are badly
fogged due to the lens and possibly the lens shade.
There is more to low light photography than just the sensor
versus film. But the E-1 had fundamental problems when
working in low light, from auto-focus issues to sensor noise.
Now that I'm older, I've noticed the OM camera has focus
issues also... but that is another matter.
