I think the Antechinus is more young men's dream, then going like the
Mantis.

If you know much about the semen transfer process in spiders, it's
not too much of a good time. And the average male isn't much more
than a snack.
The Praying Mantis is far more exciting - the nervous shock of having
his head bitten off during coitus triggers ejaculation.
And she gets a decent feed of animal protein to aid egg development.

Then there's our marsupial mouse, the Antechinus (5-6 species).
Sized like a small rat.
Mating season in October - no feeding, no thinking, just coupling.
Multiple partners - 2-3 times per day for 5-6 hours per time.
By the end of the month, all the females are pregnant.
And all the males are dead.
Their immune system collapses from stress.
So they are no longer around to compete for food.
The females die of exhaustion after the dozen or so offspring are
independant.
Antechinus die of sex or childraising.
Some choice.
