In our setup at work. it keeps a record and only sends the out of office 
reply once to the same address.

I find Out of Office messages a pain and rarely use it myself because so 
many spam messages get bounced it helps let them know its a valid 
address and also you get an inbox full of unable to send messages from 
false spam domains.
