Hi John,

On closer inspection I found more loose wires than I noticed on my first
look. Yes, the short white wire(about 1" long) is still connected to the top
contact of the remote jack. There are two wires coming up through the grip,
an orange wire connected to the bottom contact of the remote jack, and a
yellow wire which is loose. After some fiddling around, it appears that
everything works correctly when I connect the loose ends of the white and
yellow wire together. Also, there's a black diode, or something, that sits
on top of the motor. The diode has arrows pointing to one end, the wire on
that end is about 1" long and has come loose from where ever it's supposed
to be soldered as well. From the way it's sitting, it would appear that it
should be connected to the black wire which comes out of the motor, and is
soldered to a contact next to one of the screws on the motor. Does this all
sound correct to you?

Many thanks again,
Darin
