Yup, you misunderstood. The question had to do with lithium-ion for the
E-1 You also have a typo on Sanyo's "Eneloop" NiMH technology. No "r"
in the middle. I just bought an 8 pack of Eneloop AA's from Amazon for
about $20. But they only just arrived and I haven't had a chance to
test them yet. I think it's telling that they are sold pre-charged. If
they come close to meeting their spec (only 15% self-discharge in a
year) I'll replace all my other AA and AAA batteries both NiMH *and*
alkaline. At 2000 mAh for the AA's they don't pack as much power as the
highest rated AA's (2500 mAh now?) but for many applications they'll
probably deliver more usable power.

I have one particular AAA application in mind for Eneloop. I have an
indoor/outdoor thermometer that operates by radio transmitter. The
receiver/display station uses AAA alkalines and they only last about a
month. It needs a higher energy density battery like NiMH but a typical
NiMH battery would probably deliver less life due to self-discharge
which can be as much as 2-3% per day.

As to lithium-ion, both Energizer and Maxell are producing clone camera
batteries these days. Lithium-ion can be dangerous if improperly made
but you can only tell that by disassembly. Therefore, your only
protection is the reputation of the manufacturer. My backup batteries
are a Maxell for the Mynolta A1 and an Energizer for the Canyon 5D.

Best price for the Energizer for the Canyon is Target (a US department
store for those who don't know it). But there it's sold only as a
Canyon video cam battery. No notion of use in DSLR's. I find it best
to go to the manufacturer's web site, get their equivalent model number
and then search on that. Non-specialty sellers such as Target often
don't have any cross-reference info. The Maxell number for the Mynolta
is DC3470. The Energizer number for the Canyon is ER-C590. These
numbers bear no similarity whatsoever to the OEM numbers.
