Waaaay OT:

Well, speak of the devil or something. I just spent the last day offline
from Comcast cable internet, going around and around with them on 5 phone
calls and one missed/rescheduled onsite service call--missed because I was
on the phone to them at the moment the en route service rep called to
confirm if I was home or not. After further comedy surrounding 3 reschedules
of the onsite service call, my wife and I fixed the problem ourselves by
swapping out a cable and doing reset/reboots in the proper order for modem,
router, and machine. In their defense, the trouble looked extra weird all
day to them and me because each piece of hardware looked OK, but no
communication was happening, other than amongst the four home machines
connected in a LAN on my router. Only while out at dinner did it dawn on me
that a bad modem-to-router cable could produce the symptoms. On the other
hand, Comcast has no defense for messing up the service call scheduling six
ways from Sunday (well, literally 4 ways anyhow--the final reschedule was
for midday Saturday. I went out to dinner and movie and came back to find a
voicemail from them on their fancy phone system of mine asking me to confirm
plans for their visit on Sunday). So, in addition to wasting today sitting
around (and ticking off the better half somewhat, as the dinner/movie were
for our anniversary), I almost wasted Saturday too, waiting for a service
rep actually due on Sunday. Fun.

P.S.,

If you are a fan of the Reno 911! TV show, you're likely to like the Reno
911!: Miami movie, though I doubt it will blow you away. If you're not a
fan, the movie is missable.

G.H.
