I agree with Johann, and umbrellas can be folded up when you're done shooting. 
I've got a couple I've had for close to 40 years. They and the stands, which 
fold up too, take up almost no space over in the corner of the "toy room" when 
not in use, and umbrellas do give good diffuse light, if positioned correctly.

And they provide an inexpensive setup, particularly if you've already got, or 
can get at a reasonable price, the flashes.
