A camera lens is an objective lens designed with a mount to go on a
camera for capturing the image. A telescope is an objective lens with a
mount for an eyepiece for viewing the image it produces.

You can get adapters to use camera lenses as telescopes, most big,
professional telescopes are used exclusively as cameras now and many
smaller telescopes are designed to allow easy replacement of the
eyepiece with a mount for a camera. My Meade spotting scope is designed
so I can easily swap eyepiece and camera adapter.

So the designations are relatively fluid and based more on use than
optical nature. When Richard uses his Takahashi with eyepiece, it's a
telescope, with a camera, it's a 1000 mm, f8 telephoto lens.

Mirror telescope makers Celestron and Meade make the same optical
systems in different setups designed more for camera use and terrestrial
telescope (spotting scope) and for astronomical telescope use.
