I'll report back when I test them against the Red Shouldered hawk with the
Seimar 500 mm I was using. This is a lot shorter and lighter though I'd
intended to use the 2X tele as it is noticeably brighter.

Just over 3 stops.

Just goes to show you. Hanimex is not a generally well thought of brand 
and 3x converters are generally thought to be pretty dodgy. May be that 
by only using the central portion of the 35mm frame they are designed to 
cover, you get the best part. Maybe they work really well close up. 
Maybe a little of both. I hope they work well for you.
