        They did the same thing the first year I had AVG. I went to
their website, downloaded the installer for a new *free* version,
installed it and I'm good for another year. I've been getting the same
notice for about 3 weeks now so we'll see if the same thing happens.

I installed the free version of AVG about half a year ago. Since early
December '06 I have been receiving almost daily emails from AVG saying
that
the free version expires in mid Jan '07 and that if I want to continue
receiving regular updates that I have to pay a modest annual fee.
