The  1D MkII is pretty heavy, but the image quality from it is very  
impressive, too.
I'd love to do a product setup like the Porsche and shoot the MkII  
and 5D side by side.
I certainly expect the 5D will beat it for absolute resolution, but  
as Sean Reid
of Reid Reviews says of the 5D, it has a way of "drawing" images that  
is very much like
medium format film, with respect to the naturalness of it's look and the
range of tonality it creates. I find the same to  be true of my MkII,  
but it would be
interesting to compare side by side.

I don't know if a 5D replacement will have more resolution, but the
1Ds MkII replacement is rumored to be 22 megapixels.

Frankly, I'd be happy if Canon kept the 5D as it's current
resolution, but gave it Digic III and Ultrasonic Sensor Cleaning
a la the E-1.
