Keep in mind that the E300 doesn't do OTF exposure. The distance from
the flash to the subject will affect the balance and possibly the
overall exposure. The camera would have to take the autofocus reading
and use it to adjust the flash output.

For the second picture the camera would have used a shorter shutter
speed or smaller aperture to bring down the highlights which in turn
should have required more light from the flash. So perhaps the flash
setting was indeed calculated without paying attention to the -1
setting on the camera. Similarly with the third picture if the flash
ignored the camera setting, it would be over exposed.

There seems to be a strong shadow to the left of your daughter's head.
Were you using an off camera flash rather than the built in flash?
