Yes, this is how the capitalist market works.
Maximising profit is the first priority and interest. Of course they
won't see it as a 'conspiracy' although it can be very easily
described as such :)
..you remember the days, when everyone had to buy the existing vinyl
record production.. and only then the already for year invented cd
technology was introduced.. Aaah! the good old days of pure
manipulation of the market..
That's why I smile when some people and articles talk about
'technology'... Technology does not do anything for and from itself.
Capitalist economy and the corresponding social relations change
things and in specific ways.
There's nothing automatic though. Contingent factors can change things
unexpectedly.. For example, in our case local pressure and new
rationalisations can reverse the first decision or force new ones.
