I don't know if it's a hoax but I do know that CF cards can survive a
full cycle trip in the washing machine, I had left one in a shirt
pocket, my wife who never checks the pockets thought it was for the
wash. It was fortunately in the little plastic case which I am guessing
protected it, however there was some condensation on the inside of the
case so left it to dry overnight and it Works fine !!
