Hi Bill,

I haven't done this one myself but may give it a try to see what happens.
The 50mm is pretty easy to get into at the back end with a set of jewelers
screwdrivers. From there you will need a couple of specialist tools
depending on the version and a little bit of luck. First off you will need
some form of lens wrench/spanner for the locking rings inside. These rings
often have slots but sometimes just holes on opposite sides of the ring. A
large rubber stopper is the tool of choice for the nameplate ring that
secures the front element in place. Once you have the locking ring out the
rest of the elements and their spacers should just pop out. It is possible
that you may need a flexiclamp for some of the locking rings that don't have
holes or slots. The luck may come in the form of the locking ring only being
finger tight!

The best place for a one stop shop for the above mentioned tools is
Mircotools (www.micro-tools.com). I have to say I prefer the SK Grimes lens
wrench over the budget options from Micro Tools. The SKG tool is cheaper and
I think better made.

Just remember to work over a tray and don't expect to be able to get your
first try back together perfectly and/or dust free. Also don't try and work
on an expensive lens unless you have insurance ;)

Enjoy playing with it!

Dan S.

A fellow I know took a lens and removed all the elements with the exception
of one to create a lens that produces very interesting images. Dreamy out
of focus stuff. Has anyone tried this with any of the Zuiko. If so:

1) Have you used a 50mm f1.8? If not, which lens?

2) Which element was left in the lens?

3) Any special tools and/or tips I might need to know?

I love the sharpness of my Zuikos, however I also use pinhole body caps, a
Sima soft focus lens and a lensbaby, however I have recently added to my
stash of 50mm f1.8s with slow aperture blades and thought I might give
making a silk purse out of a sow's ear a go. Bill Barber
