As others have pointed out, April-May is the hottest time in Thailand so you'll
want to keep things light. It's also around when the rainy season may be
starting (depends on the weather patterns for the year and when the monsoon
hits). If it's still in the dry season it will be really hot (around 40C),
depending on where you are. If the rainy season has started then things usually
cool down some (low 30's) but the humidity will be way worse. You might want to
consider keeping some silica gel in your camera bag to help with moisture
problems (depending on how long you'll be there).

First, keep it light. I spent 8 months in SE Asia last year (7 months in Laos,
3
weeks in Vietnam, 1 week in Cambodia) with 2 OM-1n's a 24/2.8, 35/2 and 85/2 as
well as a 2x macro focusing teleconverter (used more for the reach rather than
macro but it was nice to have the option). I didn't feel limited at all with
that kit. Obviously, your mileage may vary and your travelling situation may
make carrying more gear more feasible. I was backpacking when I was travelling
so it had to be light. Also remember to factor in the weight of water. When I
was in Cambodia I would usually take 2-3L of water with me from the hotel when
I left in the morning and I would end up restocking throughout the day. I'd say
I was probably averaging 4-5L of water per day.

If you're staying in more urban areas then water will be readily available but
I'd still plan on always carrying at least 1L of water at all times.
