[OM] Artist's statement

Subject: [OM] Artist's statement

My instructor for the continuing education photo course I took last
term suggested that I should consider looking into opportunities to
start exhibiting some of my work. One of the galleries he suggested is
a local member-run photography gallery (the only dedicated photography
gallery in the city). I was already aware of the gallery and that it
was member-run but it was nice to hear some encouragement from someone
else that my photos were of a high enough standard to start exhibiting
them.

I currently have enough work prints that I should be able to put
together a good portfolio of 10-20 prints. However, one of the other
requirements for applying as a member is that I have to include and
artist's statement. Not having done this sort of thing before I'm not
really sure how to put this together. I'd really appreciate some
advice on how to put this together. The deadline for submissions is
Jan 30.

Should I be accepted as a member I'll have to pay regular membership
fees but I'll have a small amount of wall space to permanently display
a few pieces of work (I think they do ask that it's updated from time
to time). As well, they have a rotating schedule for month-long solo
shows and I believe they've done some group shows in the past as well.
Plus, being member-run, there's no commissions on any sales.

OM content would be that all the shots I'm planning to include in my
portfolio were shot using OM-1n bodies.
